A joint team consisting of various safety elements successfully secured a hiker with the initials RD on the hiking trail of Mount Dempo, Pagar Alam City, South Sumatra, on Monday (27/7/2026). This swift action was taken after RD's presence, carrying an air rifle, triggered concern and fear among other hikers.
The securing operation began with reports from hikers who crossed paths directly with RD on the trail. In addition to carrying a weapon, RD's statements were also deemed intimidating, triggering widespread concern. Responding to the emergency situation, the Mount Dempo Registration Office (BRIGADE) immediately coordinated with relevant agencies to conduct a search.
The head of BRIGADE, Dian Saputra, explained that the top priority of the operation was to ensure the safety of dozens of hikers who were in the summit area. When the incident occurred, there were about 42 other hikers active on Mount Dempo. A rescue team involving elements of Basarnas, BPBD, TNI, Tagana, and local volunteers was immediately deployed to comb the area to minimize potential danger.
After an intensive search, officers successfully found RD safe. The evacuation and securing process went smoothly without any violent incidents or casualties. BRIGADE expressed deep appreciation for the swift synergy of all evacuation team elements and the public who actively provided accurate information on the ground.
Following the evacuation, RD's family clarified that the individual in question was experiencing a certain health issue. However, this statement was purely family information and not an official medical diagnosis from the authorities. The family also conveyed their deepest apologies for the commotion that occurred in the natural tourist area.
Following this incident, the management urges all nature lovers to always comply with hiking regulations for mutual safety. Hikers are also requested to immediately report to the nearest registration post if they encounter any suspicious activity or situations that could potentially threaten security while on the trail.
