Nahdlatul Ulama University Surabaya (Unusa) officially held a competency enhancement training program for 310 elementary and junior high school teachers in Surabaya City. In collaboration with the Surabaya City Education Department, the three-day event starting Tuesday (7/7/2026) focused on mastering Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to support educational transformation in the classroom.
Carrying the theme “Transforming Learning in the Digital Era to Create Innovative and Impactful Teachers,” the training featured Asmaul Lutfauziah, a lecturer in the Master of Primary Education Program at Unusa, as the key speaker. According to her, this initiative is a strategic step to equip educators so they can adapt to global technological developments while strengthening the quality of national teaching.
During the session, teachers were not only provided with theoretical understanding, but also practical, applicable skills. Participants were taught how to design digital teaching materials, manage interactive learning media, and build an AI-based Learning Management System (LMS). Interestingly, the techniques taught were designed to be easily implemented without requiring programming skills or complex coding expertise.
Furthermore, Asmaul emphasized that the integration of AI technology in schools aims to enrich pedagogical methods, not to replace teachers. The central role of educators in shaping character and guiding students is considered irreplaceable by machines. Therefore, participants were encouraged to remain wise in utilizing technology to support the effectiveness of the teaching and learning process in their respective schools.
