Several elements of community organizations joined under the Islamic Brotherhood Forum (Fukhis) of Bekasi Regency staged a protest in front of the gates of the Bekasi Regency Government office complex on Thursday (9/7/2026). This action is a firm response to the planned discussion on the revision of Regional Regulation (Perda) No. 3 of 2016 concerning the Implementation of Tourism.
Protest Coordinator, Burhanudin Abdullah, expressed strong opposition to efforts to remove Article 47 paragraph (1) of the currently applicable regulation. According to him, the local government should instead tighten sanctions for violators, rather than implementing a revision that is deemed to loosen restrictions on nightlife businesses such as discotheques, bars, and karaoke venues.
This wave of protests emerged following the submission of the revision by the Bekasi Regency Government to the local regional house of representatives (DPRD) in early July. In the draft revision, the total ban previously in place is planned to be replaced with a spatial zoning system, allowing nightlife operations in specific commercial, service, and industrial areas.
Although the draft revision includes operational limits banning entertainment venues near educational, religious, and residential areas, Fukhis continues to reject the approach. Burhanudin emphasized that the public and Islamic scholars (ulema) in Bekasi Regency are committed to monitoring this policy and will not back down in opposing venues considered locations of vice.
To date, the Bekasi Regency DPRD and the Local Government have not issued further statements regarding the protesters' demands. The crowd stated they will continue to coordinate with all levels of religious figures in Bekasi to determine their next steps of struggle.
