A devastating fire broke out at the Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao pub in Chatuchak District, Bangkok, on Sunday night (12/07/2026). The tragedy, which occurred just before midnight, triggered mass panic after explosions and dense smoke engulfed the entertainment venue, leaving 27 patrons dead and sending dozens of others to the hospital in critical condition.
Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt stated that although the venue administratively held an operational license and emergency exit access, authorities are still conducting an in-depth investigation. The primary focus of the current investigation is to determine whether the evacuation system functioned effectively when a complete power outage occurred and thick smoke obstructed the vision of patrons inside the building.
Initial testimony from a musician at the scene revealed that smoke was seen coming from the electrical panel shortly before the power cut out completely. Although not yet an official conclusion, this statement serves as a key piece of evidence for investigators tracing the root cause of the catastrophe that claimed lives in the stage area.
This fatal incident triggered deep sorrow while reminding the public of two similar tragedies that previously shook Thailand. Earlier, the Santika Club incident in 2009 and the Mountain B Pub fire in 2022 demonstrated a similar pattern of failure: the use of flammable interior materials, non-standard electrical installations, and evacuation access that was difficult to locate during emergency situations.
The accumulation of these three dark tragedies records a total death toll of at least 120 people. This recurring phenomenon has sparked strong pressure on the Thai government to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of security and safety standards at all nightlife venues to prevent further casualties in the future.
