Leading blockchain gaming organization Yield Guild Games (YGG) has officially announced the shutdown of operations for its crypto game publishing division, YGG Play. This strategic move was made in response to conditions in the crypto market and global gaming industry, which are considered increasingly challenging to sustain commercially.

Yield Guild Games Co-Founder Gabby Dizon explained that this difficult decision was purely based on market dynamics and not caused by product quality failure. As part of the corporate restructuring, YGG will close the YGG Play website, launchpad platform, as well as several game titles operating under the division. Additionally, the company is streamlining by cutting 35 job positions.

Since its launch, YGG Play had actually recorded significant achievements, reaching cumulative revenues of US$9 million up to the first quarter of 2026. This division served as the company's spearhead in introducing casual gaming concepts that integrate crypto incentives for a broad user base. Nevertheless, market pressure resulting from digital asset price fluctuations since late 2025 forced the company to reassess its business direction.

Following the closure of YGG Play, the company is now shifting its operational focus toward the data economy sector for artificial intelligence (AI). YGG sees a major opportunity in leveraging gamer behavior patterns and activity as valuable data that can be used to train future AI models.

YGG management stated that this restructuring move aims to extend the company's runway. With treasury assets valued at US$20.6 million recorded in the first quarter of 2026, YGG is optimistic about maintaining its business sustainability for up to the next four years amidst intense global tech industry competition.
