Four Japanese robotics giants, including Fujitsu Ltd., Fanuc Corp., Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd., and Yaskawa Electric Corp., have officially formed a strategic collaboration with U.S. chip giant Nvidia Corp. This multinational partnership was initiated to accelerate the development of advanced robotics systems while defending their leading position against pressure from global competition, particularly from China.
This collaborative step will focus on leveraging Nvidia's artificial intelligence (AI) computing expertise to enhance the operational capabilities of robots. This technological synergy is projected to target several key sectors, including factory automation, logistics efficiency, modern retail systems, and transformation in healthcare.
Although Japan is globally recognized as a leading manufacturer of industrial robots, the country now faces tough challenges. The local industry is considered to be lagging in the development of humanoid robots and the implementation of advanced AI to maximize productivity.
