The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) has once again updated the activity status of Mount Anak Krakatau (GAK), which currently remains at Level III or Alert (Siaga). Based on observations conducted on Wednesday (8/7/2026) from 06:00 to 12:00 WIB, the volcano located in the Sunda Strait shows volcanic activity that requires serious attention from the surrounding community.
The officer at the GAK Observation Post, Deny Mardiono, strongly urged the entire public, fishermen, tourists, and hikers not to approach the active crater. The exclusion zone is set at a 3-kilometer radius from the eruption center to anticipate threats of hot clouds, lava flows, and ejected volcanic material.
Visual observations showed emissions of white to gray crater smoke with varying intensity, reaching heights of 10 to 250 meters above the peak. Seismically, five eruption earthquakes and continuous tremor activity were recorded, indicating that the volcano is still in an active magmatic phase.
Responding to public concern, authorities asked residents along the coasts of Banten and Lampung provinces to remain calm and not be influenced by hoax issues regarding a potential tsunami. The public is urged to always monitor updates through official channels of government agencies such as PVMBG and the local Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD).
The Head of the Communication, Informatics, Statistics, and Archives Office of Serang Regency, Surtaman, also reminded the public of the importance of information literacy in these conditions. He emphasized that the public should always verify any circulating news before resharing it, to prevent groundless panic among the community.
