Mount Semeru, located in East Java Province, once again showed a significant increase in volcanic activity on Tuesday (14/7/2026) morning. The highest volcano on Java Island was reported to have undergone a series of seven eruptions, with the eruption column reaching a height of 1.3 kilometers above the peak.
Based on observation data from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), the volcanic ash column was observed to be thick gray, heading toward several sectors. This series of eruptions was clearly recorded on the seismograph instruments at the local volcano observation post.
In response to this volcanic activity, authorities have urged the public, tourists, and climbers not to engage in any activities in the southeastern sector along Besuk Kobokan. This measure is taken to anticipate the potential hazards of expanding pyroclastic flows and cold lava flows.
