The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Management Board (BB TNBTS) has announced the temporary closure of Mount Semeru hiking trails. This policy will be implemented for 12 days, from August 7 to August 18, 2026, out of respect for the series of Karo Day celebrations held by the indigenous Tengger community in Ranupani Village.
Head of BB TNBTS, Rudijanta Tjahja Nugraha, explained that this decision refers to an official request letter from the Ranupani Village Government. All hikers are required to finish their activities and return to the Ranupani post no later than Friday, August 7, 2026, at precisely 16:00 WIB.
Although the hiking trails are closed, authorities emphasized that tourism and camping activities in the Ranu Regulo area will continue as normal. For prospective hikers previously affected by the 2025 eruption who scheduled their visits during the closure period, the management offers a rescheduling policy through a mechanism coordinated directly with group leaders.
After the closure period ends, hiking access to Mount Semeru will reopen to the public on Wednesday, August 19, 2026. The public and tourism service providers are expected to comply with these regulations to maintain the solemnity of the traditional rituals while ensuring collective safety in the national park area.
