The North Maluku Provincial Government has officially registered 1,814 sports personnel into the BPJS Ketenagakerjaan protection program. This strategic move covers the entire ecosystem involved in the North Maluku Provincial Sports Week (Porprov), from athletes, coaches, referees, and medical teams to the regional board members of the National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI).
The symbolic handover of membership cards was carried out by the Governor of North Maluku at Doomu Ma Tau Field, North Halmahera Regency. This ceremony was witnessed by the Deputy Governor of North Maluku, representatives from the Central KONI, and the local management of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan. This protection program is designed to minimize socio-economic risks resulting from work accidents that are prone to occurring during the sporting event.
The Head of the Ternate Branch Office of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, I Wayan Alit Mahendra, expressed deep appreciation for the North Maluku Provincial Government's commitment to prioritizing the safety of sports personnel. According to him, social security protection is highly crucial given the high intensity and physical risks faced by athletes and supporting teams on the field.
With this insurance, participants are expected to be able to focus on achieving their best performances without having to worry about medical expenses in the event of an injury. BPJS Ketenagakerjaan also hopes that this collaborative initiative between the regional government and KONI can serve as a role model for other employment sectors in North Maluku to realize equitable and sustainable social protection.
