The Bekasi City Government took a progressive step ahead of the launch of the Waste-to-Energy Power Plant (PLTSa) project in Bantargebang. The Mayor of Bekasi, Tri Adhianto, directly led a working visit to Huzhou, China, at the end of last June to inspect state-of-the-art waste management facilities owned by PT Wangneng Environment.
The delegation, comprising executives from the Bekasi City Government, members of the DPRD, and representatives of local residents, conducted an in-depth observation regarding the operation of waste-to-energy technology. The Head of the Bekasi City Environment Agency, Kiswatiningsih, stated that the visit aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding to all stakeholders regarding technical standards and environmental impact management of the facility.
"We ensure transparency at every stage of this project. Through a direct visit, the community and relevant parties can witness firsthand how the benefits of this technology operate under strict environmental standards," Kiswatiningsih said. She also emphasized that all funding for the working visit was covered by the project implementation business entity (BUPP), thus avoiding any burden on the Bekasi City Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD).
Furthermore, Mayor Tri Adhianto expressed his ambition to transform the face of Bantargebang from a mere landfill into a green economy hub. In addition to the PLTSa, which will generate electricity, the area is projected to become an environmental research center as well as an industry for processing residues such as fly ash and bottom ash (FABA) into economically valuable materials.
This strategic project is scheduled to enter the groundbreaking phase in early July 2026. The local government hopes that once operational, Bantargebang can become a new symbol of successful modern waste management, renewable energy innovation, and a catalyst for green economic growth in Bekasi City.
