Head of the National Police Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas), Inspector General Wibowo, instructed all ranks of the Traffic Corps as well as Regional Police Traffic Directors across Indonesia to take anticipatory measures regarding future operational challenges. The primary focus of this directive includes readiness in responding to the demographic dividend and the rapid acceleration of technology in the public transportation sector.
In his directive, Inspector General Wibowo highlighted that technological advances have brought a significant shift in societal living patterns. Although technology simplifies access to public services, he warned of the risk of spreading false information or hoaxes, which could potentially degrade the police institution's image through misleading public opinion.
Furthermore, he emphasized that traffic culture is a reflection of a nation's dignity. Wibowo regretted the still-high rate of traffic violations, such as driving against the flow of traffic and the misuse of sidewalks by motorists, indicating low discipline among road users today.
As a solution, traffic units in all regions were urged not to focus solely on law enforcement, but also to consistently strengthen educational and supervisory aspects. This strategy is expected to foster a better culture of orderly traffic amidst the complex challenges of the era.
