A wildfire has struck the slopes of the Mount Biru Complex within the Raden Soerjo Grand Forest Park (Tahura) conservation area, Mojokerto Regency. According to recent reports, at least four hotspots were detected in the Region 06 Conservation Resort (RKW), which encompasses Gumeng Village and Begaganlimo Village in Gondang District.
The Chief Executive of the Mojokerto Regency Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Rinaldi Rizal Sabirin, explained that an alert signal was first received from Raden Soerjo Tahura officers on Tuesday (14/7/2026) night. As the location of the fire falls under the jurisdiction of the East Java Provincial Forestry Service, the BPBD immediately took intensive coordination steps to monitor the situation regularly.
Following up on this information, the BPBD's Quick Response Team (TRC) immediately dispatched to Cendono Hill in Kemiri Village, Pacet District, to monitor the spread of the fire both visually and digitally through a specialized application owned by the East Java Forestry Service. From this observation point, the spread of the fire was clearly visible from the Merasi Hamlet area, which is near the Cendono Hill educational trail.
Although the location of the fire has been mapped, direct firefighting efforts cannot yet run optimally because the terrain leading to the hotspots is extremely rugged and difficult to penetrate. To anticipate the situation, a joint team consisting of the East Java BPBD, Raden Soerjo Tahura, police, university students, and Fire Care Community (MPA) has been deployed at two monitoring posts: at Cendono Hill and Gumeng Village.
Amid dry weather conditions during the dry season, authorities strongly advise local residents and hikers not to engage in any activities that could potentially trigger sparks. Mutual vigilance is essential to prevent the fire from spreading further across the protected forest area.
