Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) has officially established a strategic partnership with the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) of the Republic of Indonesia and PT Bundamedik Tbk (BMHS) to pioneer the development of the robotic surgery ecosystem in Indonesia. This cooperation was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) held at RSU Bunda Jakarta to strengthen research, education, and human resource competence in the future health technology sector.
As part of this commitment, BMHS donated a robotic surgery system unit to the Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (FTMD) at ITB. This grant of advanced medical equipment is designed as an instrument for practical learning, clinical research, and innovation development. This collaborative step is expected to bridge the engineering academic expertise of universities with the practical experience of the medical world in hospitals.
The Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, emphasized that robotic technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and biotechnology are now primary pillars in the national health transformation roadmap. According to him, accelerating the adoption of this cutting-edge technology requires close cross-sector synergy involving higher education institutions, the government, and the private industry sector.
Through the integration of engineering sciences from ITB, clinical applications from BMHS, and policy support from the Ministry of Health, this collaboration is projected to reduce Indonesia's reliance on imported medical devices. This effort also aims to create competent local talents to operate and independently develop advanced medical technology in the country.
The signing event was also attended by high-ranking officials from the three parties, including Deputy Minister of Health Benjamin Paulus Octavianus, Rector of ITB Prof. Tatacipta Dirgantara, and President Commissioner of BMHS Dr. dr. Ivan Rizal Sini. Following the ceremony, the delegates toured the robotic surgery facilities at RSU Bunda Jakarta to explore the implementation and future development schemes of this technology.
