SELATPANJANG - The National Sports Committee (KONI) of Meranti Islands Regency continues to optimize athlete development in its region. This step is realized through strengthening collaboration with the Meranti Islands Regency Government to boost sports achievements in both regional and national arenas.
This commitment was discussed in depth during an audience meeting between the board of directors of KONI Meranti Islands and the Regent of Meranti Islands, AKBP (Ret.) H. Asmar. The strategic meeting, which took place at the Regent's Office on Wednesday (29/7/2026), served as a coordination platform regarding various upcoming work programs of the organization.
The General Chairman of KONI Meranti Islands, Hidayat Abdurrahman, directly led the delegation accompanied by core board members, including First Vice Chairman Alfan Idris, Secretary Faizal, and several heads of relevant divisions. In his presentation, Hidayat emphasized the importance of integrated support from the local government, especially in preparing athletes who will compete in the upcoming Riau Provincial Sports Week (Porprov).
Hidayat explained that targeted development requires a vision and mission aligned with local government policies. Through this audience, they hope to receive direct guidance and direction so that the roadmap for sports development in the Meranti Islands can run more effectively and produce top-achieving talents.
Responding to these aspirations, Regent H. Asmar expressed high appreciation for the dedication of the KONI board in advancing the regional sports sector. Asmar emphasized the commitment of the Meranti Islands Regency Government to continue supporting KONI's work programs, both in terms of sustainable athlete development from an early age and the improvement of supporting sports facilities within the local budget capacity.
According to Regent Asmar, investing in youth development through sports is a crucial long-term investment to shape the character of a resilient, healthy, and competitive young generation. The warm audience concluded with the presentation of a souvenir from KONI to the Regent as a symbol of close partnership, followed by a group photo session.
