Jakarta — The Chairman of the Indonesian Muslim Cultural Arts Institute (Lesbumi) PBNU, Jadul Maula, held an audience with representatives of the Ministry of Health to personally hand over a petition. This step is a concrete expression of concern regarding policies considered to potentially have a negative impact on the livelihoods of tobacco farmers and workers in Indonesia.
During the meeting, Jadul Maula was accompanied by Benget Saragih, Head of the Tobacco-Related Disease Control Working Team at the Ministry of Health. The submission of this petition serves as a momentum for stakeholders to review regulations directly affecting the national tobacco economy sector.
Lesbumi PBNU emphasized the importance of a balance between public health aspects and economic protection for grassroots communities relying on the tobacco industry. Through this constructive dialogue, it is hoped that the government can adopt more inclusive policy measures that do not overlook the fate of workers in the sector.
