Responding to fluctuations in volcanic activity at Mount Anak Krakatau, which is showing signs of eruption once again, the Indonesian Disaster Experts Association (IABI) emphasized the urgency of implementing more measured disaster mitigation. This step is considered crucial to protect communities in affected coastal areas from potential eruption hazards as well as secondary threats such as tsunamis.
Dr. Daryono, an expert from IABI, stressed that the government needs to immediately update field preparedness protocols. The practical mitigation referred to includes strengthening integrated early warning systems, conducting routine education for local residents regarding evacuation routes, and providing adequate shelter facilities according to the safe radius established by volcanological authorities.
Furthermore, coordination between relevant agencies is expected to be more intensive and transparent. These preventive measures are expected to be not merely a reactive response to eruptions, but a systematic effort to build community resilience against geological dynamics in the Sunda Strait, which inherently possesses high volcanic activity characteristics.
