The Central National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI Pusat) is currently promoting the adoption of the sport intelligence concept as a crucial instrument in boosting the competitiveness of national athletes. This strategy is seen as an evolution from conventional sport science toward a more adaptive system for reading opponents' strength maps through data analysis and strategic information.
This idea was the main focus of a book review event for "Sport Intelligence," a collaborative work by Eman Sungkowo, Syarif Hidayat, Jerry Indrawan, and Irandito Abdul Hakim Malik. The event, held at the Faculty of Sports Science and Health (FIKK) of Surabaya State University (Unesa) on Tuesday (7/7/2026), provided a discussion forum for practitioners to examine the urgency of information processing in professional sports.
General Chairman of Central KONI, Marciano Norman, explained that his organization has pioneered this concept since 2019. According to him, athlete development in the modern era can no longer rely solely on physical ability and technique. Intelligence capabilities are required to map out competitors' strengths and manage extensive information networks, including leveraging media as a strategic partner in field data collection.
The application of sport intelligence is expected to provide a competitive edge for Indonesia in various international sporting events. With a more organized system for managing information, Central KONI is optimistic about creating a more precise development model, ensuring that every strategic step taken in athlete preparation has a strong and accurate analytical foundation.
