Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) officially opened the doors of the ITB Museum to the public on Friday (3/7/2026). Located at the Sasana Budaya Ganesha (Sabuga) Building, this museum stands as a monument to the long journey of Indonesia's oldest engineering higher education institution, which has now reached 106 years of age.
The inauguration was attended in person by the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, Fadli Zon. In his speech, he expressed high appreciation for the museum's approach, which combines elements of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) with an immersive experience. According to Fadli, the use of digital technology in presenting historical narratives sets a new benchmark for other higher education institutions in Indonesia.
Rector of ITB, Prof. Dr. Ir. Tatacipta Dirgantara, M.T., emphasized that this museum is not merely a warehouse for artifacts, but a dynamic, cross-generational learning space. Visitors are invited to explore the history from the era of Technische Hoogeschool te Bandoeng in 1920 to the real contributions of ITB innovators in building the nation. The transformation from a digital archive into a physical museum represents a strategic effort to preserve collective memory while sparking inspiration for the younger generation.
The ITB Museum divides its exhibition space into four thematic zones: Historical Roots, Traces of Research Enlightenment, Campus Life Dynamics, and Future Inspiration. The visitor experience is further enriched by a 360° Dome Theater that presents historical narratives through cinematic visualizations. This facility is designed to be accessible to everyone, from students and academics to the general public.
This ambitious project is the result of cross-disciplinary collaboration among academics, alumni, and strategic partners. Currently, the museum is entering a limited trial phase for the academic community over the next two weeks.
