Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment, A. Muhaimin Iskandar, emphasized the importance of equalizing the quality of healthcare services for all Indonesian people. During his visit to RSUP Prof. Ngoerah, Denpasar, Bali, on Wednesday (8/7/2026), Muhaimin ensured that Contribution Assistance Recipients (PBI) members receive equal treatment to independent members.
The government is known to allocate a budget of IDR 47 trillion annually to cover PBI contributions. Muhaimin assessed that this mechanism is a concrete manifestation of the spirit of "gotong royong" (mutual cooperation), where the state, the private sector, and the community support each other's healthcare cost burdens, especially for managing catastrophic illnesses like kidney failure that require high costs.
For example, the cost of dialysis therapy, which reaches millions of rupiah per month, can be well covered through the national social security scheme. This proves that the existence of BPJS functions as a crucial financial safety net for low-income citizens who require routine, intensive medical treatment.
Moving forward, Coordinating Minister Muhaimin is committed to continuing to strengthen the governance, regulation, and financial stability of BPJS. He urged all members of the public who are economically capable to be disciplined in paying their independent contributions. This step is considered vital not only to maintain the financial health of the institution but also as a form of social solidarity for the sustainability of the healthcare system for all Indonesian citizens.
