The Garut Regency Government (Pemkab) has officially expanded the reach of its public health services by establishing a strategic partnership with the Class IIB Prison of Garut. This agreement was solidified through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during a joint assembly at the Regional Secretariat Field, Garut Regency, on Monday (6/7/2026).
Regent of Garut, Abdusy Syakur Amin, who directly led the signing ceremony, emphasized that this step is a manifestation of the government's responsibility to guarantee citizens' fundamental rights. According to him, an inmate's legal status should not be an obstacle to obtaining adequate healthcare services while inside a correctional institution.
"Every individual has a basic right to health. Therefore, the local government is here to ensure that inmates receive equal access to medical services, without exception and without discrimination," Abdusy Syakur stated in his address.
To ensure effective implementation on the ground, the Regent has issued firm instructions to the Garut Regency Health Office to immediately outline concrete follow-up steps. This synergy focuses on strengthening promotive, preventive, and curative aspects, thereby significantly improving health standards within the Class IIB Garut Prison environment.
This collaboration is expected to become a model for inclusive public service, where the local government actively plays a role in providing social protection and health guidance to all segments of society, including those serving prison sentences.
