The Makassar City Government is currently seeking new strategies in urban waste management by eyeing an organic waste processing technology named SOMYA. Vice Mayor of Makassar, Aliyah Mustika Ilham, conducted a direct working visit to PT Enviro Mas Sejahtera in Denpasar, Bali, on Sunday (5/7/2026), to review the machine's effectiveness.
Developed by AA Ngurah Panji Astika, this technology offers a source-based waste management solution. The SOMYA machine is claimed to be capable of reducing the volume of organic waste by up to 95 percent and processing it into quality compost in just eight hours. This advantage is considered crucial to reduce the reliance of large cities on landfills (TPA).
Aliyah Mustika Ilham revealed that the Makassar City Government urgently needs practical and efficient innovations to reduce the burden of transporting waste to landfills. According to her, the utilization of eco-friendly and economical technology, such as SOMYA, is a priority for the local government so that the waste issue is not only resolved technically but also provides economic value through compost products.
Responding to this interest, the creator of SOMYA, AA Ngurah Panji Astika, expressed his readiness to collaborate. He explained that his machine is equipped with IoT and HMI technology to facilitate operation. In addition to being effective, this technology is designed to prevent emissions of harmful gases such as methane and H2S, making it a modern and sustainable model of waste management.
Both parties are now exploring the potential for formal cooperation. If the results of the technical study show alignment with the needs of Makassar City, this technology is planned to be implemented gradually in various public facilities as a strategic step in realizing a circular economy ecosystem in Indonesia.
