The Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov DKI) continues to expand the reach of its social safety net programs for senior citizens. To date, a total of 168,497 elderly individuals in Jakarta have registered as beneficiaries of the Jakarta Elderly Card (Kartu Lansia Jakarta or KLJ), providing free access to public transportation and healthcare facilities.
The Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung, shared these figures while attending the 30th National Elderly Day (HLUN) celebration in Ancol, North Jakarta. Pramono revealed that Jakarta's elderly population has reached approximately 1.1 million people, representing 10 percent of the capital city's total population of around 11 million residents.
By holding a KLJ card, elderly citizens gain zero-cost mobility. This free fare facility applies to various flagship public transport modes in Jakarta, including MRT, LRT, Transjakarta, and the JakLingko microtrans network.
In addition to transportation ease, KLJ beneficiaries are also entitled to guaranteed free medical services. The Jakarta Provincial Government has integrated this program with the regional healthcare network, which comprises 31 hospitals, 44 community health centers (puskesmas), and 292 auxiliary health clinics spread across Jakarta.
Beyond meeting basic needs, the regional government is also striving to maintain senior productivity ahead of Jakarta's 5th centenary anniversary next year. One initiative includes activating 78 Senior Schools, currently attended by 2,278 participants to keep their spirits and health strong.
Pramono emphasized that registration for the KLJ program remains dynamically open. However, the verification process will be tightened to ensure social assistance is properly targeted, prioritizing underprivileged elderly residents who lack financial support from their families.
