The University of North Sumatra (USU) reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the growth and development of the younger generation by actively participating in the commemoration of National Children's Day 2026. Collaborating with the Lions Club and the Youth and Sports Agency (Dispora) of Medan City, this event took place in a lively manner in the Lapangan Merdeka area.
On this occasion, USU established health and psychology education booths initiated by the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Dentistry, and the Faculty of Psychology. In addition to providing practical education to the community, the leading state university in North Sumatra also inaugurated strategic cooperation through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Lions Club.
The Director of the Directorate of Cooperation and Internationalization of USU, Prof. Dr. dr. Dewi Masyithah Darlan, DAP&E., MPH., Sp.Park., stated that this step is a concrete manifestation of academic contribution to public health. She emphasized the importance of preparing children as the pillars of the nation's future while supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially points one, two, and three.
In line with that mission, the District Governor of Lions Clubs International District 307-A2 Indonesia, Jones Tjiunardi, explained the role of the non-profit organization he leads. Established in 1917, this global humanitarian organization continues to focus on various crucial community issues, ranging from tackling childhood cancer, vision health, diabetes management, to environmental sustainability.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Youth and Sports Agency of Medan City, H. Tengku Chairuniza, S.Sos., M.AP., affirmed the regional government's readiness to provide safe and child-friendly public spaces. Through the provision of play facilities in city parks, the Medan City Government hopes children can engage in activities freely under parental supervision to support their physical and mental health.
