The National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI) of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) has officially expanded the scope of cross-sector cooperation to boost the quality and achievements of regional athletes. This initiative involves the active role of health institutions, education, media, and digital technology developers to support a more integrated sports ecosystem.

The General Chairperson of KONI DIY, KGPAA Paku Alam X, emphasized that athletic progress cannot be achieved through isolated efforts. According to him, multi-stakeholder synergy is crucial so that the entire development process—from physical fitness aspects, academic support, to data management—can run systematically and humanely.

In the memorandum of understanding signed on Friday (3/7/2026), Paku Alam X emphasized the importance of digitalizaton in sports governance. The utilization of technology is considered vital to facilitate athlete data management, scoring systems, and transparent and accurate rankings. In addition, media involvement is expected to strengthen exposure and public appreciation of athlete achievements.

One of the strategic partners in this collaboration is Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY). The Rector of UMY, Prof. Achmad Nurmandi, stated his institution's readiness to provide comprehensive support, ranging from providing sports medicine specialists to offering scholarships for athletes pursuing higher education.

Furthermore, Prof. Nurmandi assessed that Yogyakarta has a competitive advantage compared to other regions, especially regarding the massive availability of sports facilities down to the village level. This synergy between the government, KONI, and universities is expected to create a symbiotic relationship capable of producing national and international award-winning athletes.
