The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, is currently intensifying the exploration of strategic cooperation in mastering rare earth refining technology. This initiative is projected to strengthen the structure of the domestic downstream industry, particularly in the development of the magnet industry.
Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Brian Yuliarto, revealed that his party has established intensive communication with Midwest, an Indian company. This collaborative project also involves active coordination from the Indonesian Mining Society Association (Perminas) and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) to ensure the technology transfer runs optimally.
As part of concrete steps, a technical team from BRIN and Perminas has conducted a series of visits to India to directly observe the country's refining technology capabilities. Brian emphasized that India has offered access to the technology needed for Indonesia to build an independent magnet industry supply chain.
This step is expected to be a catalyst for Indonesia in optimizing its abundant rare earth mineral resource potential, while reducing dependence on global supply chains. Discussions regarding technical details and cooperation implementation schemes are currently still ongoing among the related parties.
