The Branch Leadership Council of the Indonesian Law Students Association (DPC PERMAHI) Banten has issued a strong urge to the Serang City and Regency Governments. The organization demands that local authorities immediately crack down on the operations of Night Entertainment Venues (THM), which are allegedly still operating despite being restricted by regional regulations.
Based on field investigations, PERMAHI found that several night entertainment business units are still operating in the region. One of the main highlights is the Pasar Induk Rau (Rau Central Market) area, which is known to be an asset owned by the Serang City Government, but is allegedly being used for entertainment business activities and the illegal sale of alcoholic beverages.
The Chairman of DPC PERMAHI Banten, M. Nurul Hakim, emphasized that law enforcement must be carried out consistently and without discrimination. He highlighted the contradiction that occurs when government assets are instead used for activities that violate Regional Regulation (Perda) No. 2 of 2010 on the Mitigation of Social Pathologies and Regional Regulation No. 13 of 2019 on Public Order.
Furthermore, PERMAHI demands that the Serang City Government be transparent regarding the utilization status of assets in the Pasar Induk Rau. They urge the government to immediately conduct a comprehensive licensing inspection and take firm steps to close down THMs that violate applicable legal regulations.
As a sign of seriousness in addressing this issue, PERMAHI stated that if rule enforcement and supervision by relevant agencies continue to weaken, they demand the Mayor of Serang to take administrative evaluation steps, including removing the Head of the Civil Service Police Unit (Kasatpol PP) from his position as a form of accountability for the lack of effectiveness in enforcing local regulations on the ground.
