The East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Regional Police has officially launched an e-sports tournament titled the 2026 Kapolda Cup. This initiative serves not only as a competition but also as a strategic move by the police force to scout promising electronic sports talents expected to bring pride to the region at national and international levels.
The Head of ICT for the NTT Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Yoseph Krisbiyanto, stated during the opening ceremony in Kupang on Monday that this tournament is part of the 80th Bhayangkara Day celebrations. According to him, the Indonesian National Police (Polri) is committed to supporting the growth of the digital ecosystem by providing a developmental platform that emphasizes sportsmanship, discipline, and teamwork for the younger generation.
The competition is being contested by 20 teams representing various resort police (Polres) departments across the NTT Regional Police's jurisdiction. The winners will eventually be prepared to represent NTT in the national-level tournament, the 2026 Kapolri Cup, to be held in Jakarta. This event also serves as a crucial warm-up, given that NTT will co-host the National Sports Week (PON) in 2028.
Echoing this sentiment, the Director of Special Criminal Investigation for the NTT Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Hans Rachmatulloh Irawan, emphasized that beyond the technical aspects of the game, this tournament aims to strengthen synergy between the police and the community. Through a healthy and productive digital space, the police hope to motivate NTT's youth to channel their interests and talents in a positive direction.
