To commemorate the 80th Bhayangkara Day, the South Sumatra Regional Police (Polda Sumsel) officially opened the Kapolda Cup VI 2026 Badminton Tournament. This prestigious sporting event took place at the Drs. Warsito Badminton Sports Hall, Pakri Complex, Palembang, successfully attracting the attention of thousands of residents from across the region.
This year's championship recorded the participation of 1,078 athletes divided into various age groups, ranging from early age categories to veterans. Beyond professional athletes, the tournament also involved members of the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI), the National Police (Polri), representatives from government agencies, the private sector, and sports communities, making it one of the largest badminton events in the South Sumatra region this year.
The opening ceremony was festive, attended by several key figures, including South Sumatra Governor Herman Deru and South Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General Sandi Nugroho. An exhibition match bringing together regional leaders and police officials added warmth to the atmosphere, which was further highlighted by the presence of national badminton legends Mohammad Ahsan and Tri Kusharjanto to inspire young athletes.
Head of the Organizing Committee, Police Senior Commissioner Hari Purnomo, explained that the week-long tournament, taking place from July 4 to 11, 2026, aims to be more than just a competition. The event is designed as a means to nurture young athletic talent while serving as a medium to foster closer bonds between the police force and all levels of society.
Governor Herman Deru highly praised the consistency of the South Sumatra Regional Police in organizing this event. He noted that through the spirit of sportsmanship and collaboration built on the court, sports have proven effective in cementing unity between institutions and citizens, aligning with the police's humanistic approach in serving the public.
