The Tanah Karo Police (Polres) have successfully uncovered a case of bloody assault in the Mount Sibayak tourist area, Karo Regency, North Sumatra. Nine local residents have been named suspects for their alleged involvement in a mob attack that left one teenager dead and six others injured.
Karo Police Chief, Police Superintendent (AKBP) Pebriandi Haloho, explained that the investigation began after receiving a report of a teenager's body showing signs of physical violence. Following up on the finding, the Cobra Team of the Karo Police Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim), in cooperation with the Berastagi Police Crime Investigation Unit (Unit Reskrim), immediately launched an in-depth investigation and successfully identified the suspects.
The investigation revealed two interrelated violent incidents committed by the same group of perpetrators. The first incident targeted six teenagers with the initials PRP (16), PRP (19), RKF (15), DNP (15), AQ (17), and SAS (17), who suffered severe head injuries. Meanwhile, the second incident claimed the life of a victim identified as RCS (17), a teenager from Medan.
The tragic event began while the victims were hiking on Mount Sibayak. The group of perpetrators, which included a local levy post officer, received one-sided information alleging that the victims had stolen belongings from other hikers. Provoked by the accusation, the perpetrators spontaneously launched a mass assault at the summit.
It did not stop there; under intimidation, the victims were forced to reveal information about another alleged thief who had operated in the area. The perpetrators then fetched this new target from Tongging Village, brought him back to the location, and tortured him together, ultimately resulting in the victim's death.
