A dangerous incident occurred at the Tosselilla Sommarland amusement park in Sweden on Sunday (28/6/2026) when a thunderstorm swept through the region. A lightning strike reportedly hit a tree in the park area, causing falling wood debris to injure a group of visitors who were near the location.
The amusement park management stated that they had mitigated the risk by stopping the operation of rides and pools as soon as the weather deteriorated. Although safety protocols were implemented, fate decided otherwise when lightning directly struck a tree in an open area where visitors were passing by.
The Region Skåne health authority confirmed that a 45-year-old woman had to undergo intensive care due to serious injuries. Additionally, two other people were rushed to the hospital by ambulance, while five adults and two other children received medical treatment for minor injuries.
This event occurred amidst a severe weather warning issued by the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI). The agency had previously warned of the potential for thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain, which was predicted to sweep across much of southern Sweden on the same day.
