Major indexes on the US Wall Street stock exchange managed to record gains in trading on Monday (6/7/2026). This positive sentiment was mainly driven by the impressive performance of the technology sector, which was able to offset pressure from several other large company stocks.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average index closed up 155.84 points or 0.29 percent to 53,055.91. A similar performance was shown by the S&P 500 index which rose 0.72 percent, and the Nasdaq composite index which surged 1.12 percent to 26,121.16.
The surge in stock prices was triggered by positive news from Broadcom, whose shares rose 3.7 percent after reaching a long-term agreement until 2031 with Apple in microchip development. Apple shares also rose by 1.31 percent. On the other hand, although the tech sector overall strengthened by 1.3 percent, Microsoft shares actually weakened by 0.96 percent after the company announced plans to reduce its workforce.
In the commodity market, gold futures on the COMEX exchange jumped 1 percent to US$4,167.5 per ounce. The strengthening of the precious metal was driven by data on the slowdown of the US labor market in June, which signaled that the Federal Reserve would likely delay further interest rate hikes. However, the rise in gold prices was temporarily limited by the 0.1 percent strengthening of the US dollar index.
Meanwhile, a different condition occurred in European stock markets, where the STOXX 600 index closed down 0.35 percent due to profit-taking by investors. Market movements on the blue continent appeared mixed, with the FTSE 100 index in London and the CAC 40 in Paris recording declines, while the DAX 30 index in Frankfurt still managed to end the session in the green zone.
