An intensive search operation involving a joint SAR team yielded positive results after two teenage boys, identified by their initials MR (15) and MRA (16), were found safe in the early hours of Friday (10/7). The two were previously reported missing while hiking in the Mount Jantan area, Tebing District, Karimun Regency.
The incident began when the two teenagers hiked the mountain on Thursday afternoon. Fatigue forced them to rest along the trail. Unknowingly, they fell fast asleep until night fell. Upon waking up, the darkness caused them to lose their sense of direction and fail to find the path back.
In an emergency situation, the two attempted to call for help via the Karimun Police 110 emergency call service. However, communication was cut off because their mobile phone battery died. This information was swiftly acted upon by the police and relevant rescue teams.
Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Tebing Police, Ipda Kennedi, confirmed that his party immediately coordinated the search operation with SAR elements, BPBD, Tagana, and assistance from local residents. The Tanjungbalai Karimun SAR Post Rescue Team was even deployed using thermal drone technology to map the victims' body heat amidst the dense forest of Mount Jantan.
This collaborative effort paid off at 00:40 WIB. The two teenagers were found about 50 meters from Post 1 of the hiking trail. Head of Class A Search and Rescue Office Tanjungpinang, Fazzli, expressed high appreciation for the synergy of all parties involved. After being confirmed in good health, the two victims were immediately evacuated to the post and handed over to their respective families.
