President Prabowo Subianto has intensified communication with the nation's senior figures at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Thursday (11/6/2026). This time, the former 10th and 12th Vice President of Indonesia, Jusuf Kalla, was present for strategic discussions amidst national economic dynamics currently facing pressure from the weakening rupiah exchange rate and a sluggish stock market.

During the closed-door meeting, Jusuf Kalla revealed that the main focus of the discussion was strengthening energy sovereignty as the backbone of economic growth. Kalla presented an investment plan worth IDR 60 trillion to IDR 70 trillion for renewable energy development. This project is projected to add 2,000 megawatts to national energy capacity, a move considered crucial to boost the economic growth target from 5–6 percent to 8 percent.

Beyond the economic sector, the discussion between the two figures also touched on international geopolitical issues. Jusuf Kalla stated that President Prabowo also sought his views on peace efforts in regions experiencing tension, such as Southern Thailand, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. This underscores Indonesia's position in actively pursuing global peace diplomacy.

Political analyst from the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Arya Fernandes, assessed that the series of meetings conducted by President Prabowo with economic experts and political figures represents a crucial mitigation step. According to him, economic policies during difficult times always carry political risks, making input from senior figures essential to minimize the narrative gap between the government and public expectations.

Arya added that differing views on economic conditions between official government narratives and reality on the ground pose a unique challenge to political stability. Therefore, continuous consultation with experienced figures is expected to assist the government in formulating policies that are not only economically sound, but also acceptable to the wider public without causing social unrest.
