Yogyakarta State University (UNY), through the Commission for Research, Community Service, Information Systems, and Cooperation of the University Academic Senate (Komisi RPkMSIK-SAU), has established a strategic collaboration with the Regional Board of the Indonesian Dental Association (PDGI) for the Special Region of Yogyakarta. This synergy was realized through a community service activity centered at the Kenteng Hamlet Hall, Pacarejo Village, Semanu Subdistrict, Gunungkidul Regency, on Saturday (July 4, 2026).

The program, led by Dr. dr. Prijo Sudibjo, M.Kes., Sp.S., AIFO, targeted around 100 elderly residents from Kenteng Hamlet and Kepuh Hamlet. This initiative was designed as a concrete effort to improve the health status and quality of life of the elderly through a comprehensive health promotion, preventive, and curative approach.

PDGI DIY community service officer, drg. Prasasti Bintarum, explained that the program focused not only on physical check-ups, but also on continuous education. The series of activities included healthy lifestyle counseling, a fitness exercise session themed “Healthy, Fit, and Happy Elderly with SEMANU,” as well as basic health check-ups such as monitoring blood pressure, blood sugar, weight, and cholesterol levels.

In addition to general health, the medical team provided specific services in dental and oral health, ranging from routine screening and dental scaling to simple medical procedures such as fillings and tooth extractions. The high enthusiasm of the participants throughout the event served as a positive indicator of the success of health education at the grassroots level.

Furthermore, drg. Prasasti emphasized the importance of inter-institutional collaboration in maintaining the well-being of the elderly. Through early detection and the adoption of healthy lifestyle habits, it is hoped that the elderly in Pacarejo Village can spend their golden years remaining physically active, independent, and productive. This activity is expected to serve as a role model for sustainable cooperation among universities, professional organizations, and the local community.
