Bekasi Regency is preparing to showcase its cultural art presence on the national stage through the participation of the Ujungan Dance at the XXV Lima Gunung Festival. The prestigious event, set to take place in Pakis District, Magelang Regency, Central Java, on July 11, 2026, serves as a strategic platform for Bekasi artists to introduce the richness of their local traditions to a wider audience.
A total of 10 dancers from the Kusuma Art Studio have undergone intensive preparation since June 20, 2026. According to choreographer Eyang Anjar Purwani, the artists' commitment is extraordinary, as they are independently covering all travel and operational expenses. Despite having no sponsor support, their determination to bring honor to Bekasi Regency on the national cultural stage remains unwavering.
The Ujungan Dance itself is an adaptation of a traditional martial agility game, now choreographically crafted to be more enjoyable for audiences. Signature Ujungan movements—such as the ready stance, strikes, dodging, and defensive techniques—are blended into a harmonious flow. The dance was first introduced during the 73rd Anniversary of Bekasi Regency, featuring thousands of students in a colossal performance.
The presence of the Ujungan Dance at the Lima Gunung Festival is expected to enrich the artistic diversity showcased at this annual event. With a performance duration of 4 minutes and 50 seconds, the dancers are expected to captivate art communities from across the archipelago, while reinforcing the cultural identity of Bekasi Regency as a heritage worthy of continued preservation.
