KUDUS — In order to suppress the rising number of diabetes mellitus patients, a team of lecturers from Muhammadiyah University of Kudus (UMKU) initiated a community service program titled GASPOL (Gaya Hidup Sehat Pol-Polan / All-Out Healthy Lifestyle). The activity, centered in Peganjaran Village, Bae District, Kudus Regency, targeted women who are members of the local 'Aisyiyah Branch Leadership on Friday (10/7/2026).
This program is run by three UMKU academics, namely Ns. Noor Eswanti, M.Kep., Ns. Novi Tiara, M.Kep., and led by Purbowati, S.Gz., M.Gz. This preventive measure is designed to detect risk factors early while equipping the community with a deep understanding of diabetes, including the recognition of early symptoms and prevention steps.
The series of activities began with a registration process and completing an initial questionnaire to measure the residents' level of understanding regarding diabetes mellitus. After that, the team conducted free blood sugar level screenings to detect potential disease before moving on to the interactive education session.
According to the Head of the Service Team, Purbowati, the education provided emphasized the importance of maintaining an ideal body weight, consuming a balanced nutritious diet, exercising regularly, and conducting routine health check-ups. The residents appeared enthusiastic about discussing and consulting directly regarding the implementation of a healthy lifestyle in their daily lives to maintain family fitness.
