A joint Search and Rescue (SAR) team successfully evacuated the body of a teenage hiker, identified by the initials GA (17), who suffered a fatal accident in the Mount Rinjani area, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. The victim, who hailed from Mataram City, reportedly fell into a ravine approximately 100 meters deep in the Kebun Jeruk area, which is part of the Torean hiking trail.
According to official registration data, the victim had been hiking for ritual purposes since Sunday (26/7/2026), entering through the Senange Hamlet gate in Sambik Elen Village, North Lombok Regency. Unfortunately, the journey turned tragic when the victim slipped down a steep cliff on the Torean trail, which is known to be extreme.
The Head of the Administrative Sub-Division of the Mount Rinjani National Park (TNGR) Agency, Astekita Ardi, explained that the evacuation process was initiated immediately after receiving the incident report. When rescuers reached the bottom of the ravine, the victim showed no signs of life and had sustained severe fractures on several parts of his body.
The victim's body was then evacuated from the hiking trail and rushed to the Senaru Health Center (Puskesmas) for further handling. Following the medical examination, the body was handed over to the family to be taken to the funeral home in the Cakranegara area, Mataram.
The TNGR National Park Agency expressed high appreciation for the hard work and synergy of all parties involved in the rescue mission, including Basarnas Mataram, the TNI/Polri, Asuransi Syariah Kita Bisa (EMHC), East Lombok SAR Unit, and local volunteers. Local authorities also expressed their deepest condolences for the tragedy that befell the victim.
