The search operation for two teenagers from Krinjing Village, Watumalang District, who were reported missing in the Mount Bismo area, Wonosobo Regency, ended tragically. The victims, identified as Arifin Nurohmat (18) and Yufaidin (15), were found dead at the bottom of a valley near the Curug Tiga area on Sunday (12/7/2026).
It is known that the two teenagers climbed the mountain without their parents' permission on June 30, 2026, with minimal supplies. Lack of preparation and extreme terrain are suspected to be triggering factors in the incident that claimed the lives of both youths.
The Chief Executive of BPBD Wonosobo, Sumekto Hendro, explained that the discovery was the result of hard work by a volunteer team together with the Wanadri Mountain Climbers and Jungle Explorers Association. The victims' bodies were found at a depth of about 200 meters in an area with very dense forest vegetation.
"The condition of the bodies when found showed signs of decomposition, indicating that they had been deceased for quite some time. The locations where they were found were also somewhat distant from each other at the bottom of the valley," Sumekto stated during an official briefing.
The evacuation process was quite challenging given the very steep terrain and thick vegetation. Hundreds of volunteers were involved in raising the bodies from the bottom of the valley until they were successfully taken to the hospital for further identification and preparation before being handed over to their families.
To date, relevant authorities are still conducting an investigation to determine the exact cause of death of the two teenagers. The Wonosobo Regency Government, through BPBD, also expressed high appreciation to all volunteer groups, Basarnas, and the Wanadri team who worked tirelessly on this search and evacuation mission.
