UIN Walisongo Semarang officially established a strategic partnership with the Social Security Administering Body for Health (BPJS Kesehatan) through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU). This collaboration makes UIN Walisongo the first state Islamic higher education institution (PTKIN) in Indonesia to be directly involved in optimizing the National Health Insurance (JKN) program.
The official launch event, held at the Kyai Sholeh Darat Building in Semarang on Wednesday (01/07/2026), was attended by university leadership and the board of directors of BPJS Kesehatan. Director of Planning and Development of BPJS Kesehatan, Dr. dr. Sutopo Patria Jati, explained that this collaboration aims to integrate higher education's three pillars (tridarma) with BPJS's social responsibility in guaranteeing public health.
The synergy between the two institutions will be realized through several concrete programs, including health-related curriculum development, implementation of thematic Student Community Service (KKN), and chronic disease management programs (Prolansia). In addition, BPJS Kesehatan will open opportunities for academics within UIN Walisongo to contribute to health research through a Call for Paper program scheduled to launch at the end of July.
Rector of UIN Walisongo, Prof. Dr. Musahadi, positively welcomed this strategic step. According to him, the involvement of faith-based institutions is crucial in building public awareness. He emphasized that through an approach grounded in religious values, education on the importance of health insurance can be conveyed more persuasively to the religious Indonesian public.
Both parties hope that the MoU will not merely serve as an administrative formality. The implementation of measurable programs is expected to expand service reach and improve public literacy regarding the importance of health insurance, while strengthening the campus's role in addressing national public health challenges.
