The Mount Ambang area has now become the focus of a group of environmental activists following an increase in hiking activities that has not been accompanied by awareness of preserving nature. The issue of scattered trash and rampant vandalism on hiking facilities prompted eight nature lover communities from Bolaang Mongondow Raya (BMR) to take action to restore the ecosystem.
In a series of actions titled "One Step, Two Benefits: Free of Trash & Vandalism" which took place on July 1–3, 2026, volunteers worked hand in hand to clean up trash along the hiking trail. In addition, they cleaned up facilities from Post 1 to Post 3 by removing vandalism and installing new trail markers to support the safety and navigation of hikers.
This activity involved collaboration between the BMR Nature Lovers Alliance, Vertical Merah Putih, PA Manguni Green Community, KMPA Maleo, MPA Butaiyo Nusa, KPAB Ochetellus Kotamobagu, Komunitas Pendaki, and KPAB Lembah Hitam Adventure. Field coordination was led directly by Acil Taulama and Wahyudi Makalalag as a concrete effort to minimize the adverse impacts of human activities on the conservation area.
Acil Taulama emphasized that every hiker has a moral obligation to maintain the preservation of the mountain. He sharply criticized individuals who ignore cleanliness, questioning the logic of carrying heavy loads up but being unwilling to bring trash down. According to him, self-existence on social media should not be proven by damaging trees or defacing public facilities.
Echoing this sentiment, Mekry Supit invited the public to make environmental awareness a culture of life. The volunteers hope this action will raise awareness among hikers that the beauty of Mount Ambang is a heritage that must be protected together for future generations, not just an object to be enjoyed momentarily.
