The volcanic activity of Mount Merapi, located on the border of the Special Region of Yogyakarta and Central Java, showed a significant increase again on Monday (13/7/2026) morning. This geological phenomenon was marked by the emergence of pyroclastic flows sliding down the slopes of the mountain.
According to reports from the Geological Disaster Technology Research and Development Center (BPPTKG), the event occurred at exactly 05:09 WIB. Volcanic material was recorded sliding toward the southwest and south, focusing primarily on the upper reaches of the Krasak and Boyong Rivers.
BPPTKG observation data showed that the pyroclastic flows had a runout distance of 2,000 meters. This activity was recorded to have a duration of 109.99 seconds with a maximum amplitude reaching 19.52 millimeters. In addition to pyroclastic flows, visual monitoring also detected incandescent lava emerging from the lava dome at the volcano's peak.
To date, BPPTKG emphasizes that the status of Mount Merapi remains at Level III or Alert. The public is urged to remain vigilant given the potential hazard of lava avalanches and pyroclastic flows that can reach up to 7 kilometers along certain river channels, such as the Bedog, Krasak, and Bebeng Rivers.
Authorities strictly prohibit all citizen activities within the danger zone potentially affected directly by eruptive materials. The public is asked to continue monitoring official updates from relevant authorities to ensure safety in the disaster-prone area.
