The coastal tourist area in Anyer and Carita remains a popular destination for the public despite Mount Anak Krakatau (GAK) currently being at Level III or Alert status. The Banten Provincial Government emphasized that tourism operations continue to run normally and safely for visitors, as long as the public continues to follow official recommendations from relevant authorities.
Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Banten Province, Lutfi Mujahidin, stated that his team continues to strengthen preparedness through cross-sector coordination, involving BMKG, PVMBG, as well as the TNI and Polri. The government's main focus is on measured mitigation. According to him, community evacuation will only be carried out if there are clear indications of a potential tsunami, not solely due to volcanic eruption activity.
From a geological perspective, PVMBG Volcano Observer Anggi Nuryo Saputro explained that the morphological condition of Mount Anak Krakatau today is vastly different from the 2018 tsunami event. Currently, the volcano's elevation is recorded at 158 meters above sea level (masl), significantly lower than during the 2018 incident when it reached 337 masl. Nevertheless, he emphasized that tourists and fishermen must comply with the prohibition of activities within a three-kilometer radius from the active crater.
On the ground, tourism business operators and visitors showed a calm attitude. At Bandulu Beach, arrivals of tourist groups remain consistent, traveling both by bus and private vehicles. Tourists stated that they chose to proceed with their vacation plans after monitoring the situation and ensuring that conditions on site remained safe and conducive.
Tourist area managers also confirmed that there has been no significant drop in visitor numbers due to the volcano's status upgrade. The Banten Provincial Government is committed to providing accurate information updates through official channels to ensure public safety without causing unnecessary panic.
