Coordinating Minister for Food, Zulkifli Hasan, introduced an innovative technology named "Lahsamor" as an alternative solution to address the accumulation of organic waste in Bali. Developed by the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), the innovation was showcased on the sidelines of the Waste Sorting Alert Rally at Renon Field, Denpasar, on Tuesday (7/7/2026).
Lahsamor is designed to make it easier for communities to manage household organic waste independently. The device operates on a lever system capable of processing about 0.5 to 1 kilogram of organic waste daily. Zulkifli expressed his hope that the device's capacity could be increased to 50 kilograms to optimize its use in educational institutions, offices, and shopping centers.
Although this technology offers convenience, Zulkifli emphasized that the main key to waste management still lies in the discipline of sorting organic and inorganic waste at the source. He added that Lahsamor is not a replacement for traditional methods like 'modern teba' which are already common in Balinese society, but rather a complement for residents with limited yard space.
As a further strategic step, the government also plans to implement Waste-to-Electricity (PSEL) management in Bali starting July 8, 2026. This project is expected to be a permanent solution to end open dumping practices, which are considered dangerous and prone to triggering fires, as well as causing health impacts on the surrounding environment.
