The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Kemkomdigi) emphasized that mastering digital talent is a crucial element determining Indonesia's bargaining position amid increasingly dynamic global technological competition. The government is now prioritizing the improvement of human resource quality as the main driving force in facing changes in industrial structure, particularly in the landscape of artificial intelligence.
Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Nezar Patria, stated that a country's edge in the future will no longer rely solely on physical infrastructure development, but on the innovation capacity of its society. According to him, Indonesia must immediately shift its role from a technology user to an active part of the global technology development value chain.
"Digital talent is the deciding factor. With highly capable human resources, we can overcome infrastructure limitations and win the global competition," said Nezar Patria during a visit to the Komdigi HR Training Center in Medan, Saturday (4/7/2026).
As a strategic step, the government is intensifying collaboration with higher education institutions. Campuses are seen as the ideal ecosystem to foster innovation aligned with industry needs and national policies. One concrete initiative is the 'AI Talent Factory' program implemented in various universities to distribute access to digital competence throughout the country.
Furthermore, this talent development does not only target technical aspects. Kemkomdigi also provides in-depth briefing on the geopolitics of technology and digital economic transformation. This holistic approach is expected to produce adaptive talent ready to face the rapidly moving challenges of the future digital economy.
