Jember Regency is further cementing its position on the international stage by hosting the Jember Indonesia Cigar City (JKCI) 2026 festival, which took place in the Watu Ulo Beach area on Saturday (1/8/2026). This annual event is designed not only as a business matchmaking venue for tobacco industry players, but also as a strategic platform that combines regional tourism promotion, cultural arts preservation, and the strengthening of the plantation commodity downstreaming program.
One of the key achievements of this year's festival was the launch of two new premium cigar variants produced by BIN Cigar, namely "Sakera" and "Grand Cigaro." Both products are projected to enter export markets soon. This tactical step aligns with the Jember Regency Government's commitment to shift the industry's focus from merely exporting raw tobacco leaves to high-value processed products to safeguard the welfare of local farmers.
The Regent of Jember, Muhammad Fawait, stated that the presence of representatives from 11 countries, including the United States, underscores the global appeal of the region's tobacco commodity. According to him, the JKCI festival proves that Jember is on the right track in developing a new economic ecosystem. The choice of Watu Ulo Beach as the venue is also a concrete effort to introduce a leading tourism destination to the international market.
Unlike in previous years, JKCI 2026 was packaged exclusively yet remained inclusive of the local community. In addition to product exhibitions and business negotiation forums, the festival featured local cultural arts performances harmonized with international musical arrangements. Fawait viewed this collaborative step as proof that modernization and global market penetration can go hand in hand without abandoning the region's authentic cultural identity.
Support for this strategic move also came from Member of Commission XI of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), Charles Meikyansah. He appreciated the synergistic collaboration between the private sector and the local government, which is deemed capable of widely stimulating the public economy. Through the acceleration of the tourism sector and the cigar industry, Jember is optimistic about achieving its target as one of the main capitals of the cigar industry in Asia and even the world.
