Volcanic activity at Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) has increased again. The active volcano reportedly experienced a follow-up eruption on Wednesday (15/7/2026) at 00:33 WITA, bringing its total eruption count to 18 over the past week.
According to data from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the eruption early that morning could not be observed visually. Nevertheless, seismograph instruments recorded the eruption vibration with a maximum amplitude reaching 22.2 millimeters and a duration of approximately 99 seconds.
Currently, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki remains at Level III (Alert/Siaga). Overnight monitoring reports showed fluctuating seismic activity, including two eruption earthquakes, one emission earthquake, and nine non-harmonic tremors of varying durations.
To avoid potential dangers, PVMBG urges local residents, visitors, and tourists not to conduct any activities within a 5-kilometer radius of the crater center. This recommendation was issued to protect the safety of residents from the threat of volcanic material.
For context, throughout 2026, MAGMA Indonesia recorded a total of 3,185 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki ranks second with a total of 404 eruptions, behind Mount Semeru in East Java, which recorded the highest activity with 1,405 eruptions.
