The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Authority (TNBTS) has officially issued a temporary closure policy for Mount Semeru hiking access. This step was taken to respect the series of Karo Day religious observances that will be carried out by the local indigenous community in August 2026.
According to Announcement Letter Number PG.16/T.8/TU/HMS.01.08/B/07/2026, the trail closure will take effect from Friday, August 7, 2026, until Tuesday, August 18, 2026. This decision follows a request from the Ranupani Village Government, Lumajang Regency, to maintain the solemnity of the religious rituals.
The management emphasized that final hiking activities are only permitted until August 6, 2026, with the obligation for all hikers to descend from the mountain area by 4:00 PM WIB on the following day. The hiking trails are scheduled to resume normal operations on August 19, 2026.
For prospective hikers affected by this policy, particularly those who had previously scheduled visits, TNBTS is offering a rescheduling option through the official online system at bromotenggersemeru.id. Technical coordination regarding schedule changes will be communicated directly to group leaders via their registered WhatsApp contacts.
Although the main hiking trail is closed, the Head of the TNBTS Authority, Rudijanta Tjahjah Nugraha, confirmed that the Ranu Regulo tourist area and campsite remain open to the public. He urged all tourists and tourism service providers to comply with these provisions for the comfort and smooth execution of the local traditional celebrations.
