The Indonesian government utilized the Indonesia-Russia Business Forum at the INNOPROM 2026 event, held in Yekaterinburg, to expand palm oil-based industrial diplomacy. In the forum themed "Palm Oil and the Future of Sustainable Energy", Indonesia positioned palm oil as a key element in the global transition toward cleaner and more sustainable energy.
Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita emphasized that this step is a national strategy to make the palm oil industry an economic driver as well as a solution to the energy crisis. Through downstreaming and technological collaboration with Eurasian countries, Indonesia aims to increase the added value of national products in the international market.
One of the main highlights of the forum was the implementation of the mandatory B50 biodiesel program, which officially takes effect in July 2026. The program, which requires a 50 percent blend of palm oil-based biodiesel, was presented as Indonesia's concrete step to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and significantly mitigate carbon emissions.
Director General of Resilience, Territorial, and International Industrial Access (KPAII) at the Ministry of Industry, Tri Supondy, mentioned that Indonesia's presence at the event also proves the transformation of the palm oil sector, which has evolved beyond its role as a raw commodity export. Indonesia is now focusing more on eco-friendly downstream industrial technology innovation.
In addition to technical aspects, the government also reaffirmed its commitment to global sustainability standards by strengthening the Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) certification system. This effort is supported by the replanting of smallholder plantations and the development of biodiesel technology managed by the Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDPKS) to ensure the industry aligns with the global green energy agenda.
