President Prabowo Subianto officially launched the B50 biodiesel program at an event held at Rest Area KM 57, Karawang, West Java, on Thursday (8/7/2026). Through this policy, Indonesia is recorded as a global pioneer in implementing a biofuel blend with a biodiesel percentage reaching 50 percent into diesel fuel.
In his speech, Prabowo emphasized that this initiative goes beyond mere technical innovation. According to him, the B50 program is a tangible manifestation of the nation's ability to optimize natural resources for the welfare of the wider community, while also serving as a crucial step in strengthening national energy independence.
This program is designed as a strategic government agenda to reduce dependence on fuel imports while increasing the added value of the national commodity sector. This step is expected to become an important pillar in maintaining domestic energy security and economic stability amidst global challenges.
The implementation of this policy is based on a strong legal foundation, namely the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation Number 4 of 2025 and the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Decision Number 257.K/EK.01/MEM.E/2026. These regulations mandate the blending of B50 biodiesel nationwide as the new standard for diesel fuel.
The government is providing a transition period for all fuel-supplying business entities to make operational adjustments. All related parties are given until September 30, 2026, to manage stocks of B40-specification fuel before fully switching to the new B50 standard.
